Sigita Daugule

The series „Classics of Latvian Art” presents a book about Jānis Liepiņš (1894-1964).

Democratic subject matter, most commonly the everyday life of fishermen and peasants, scenes from the market and the inn, and a tonally rich and expressive mode of painting – these are the defining characteristics of Jānis Liepiņš as an artist, which have ensured him an abiding place in the panorama of 1920s and 30s Latvian painting.
